In 2018, on behalf of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health), the Center for Health Equity (CHE) worked with community partners and other County agencies to develop an Action Plan to reduce and eliminate health inequities among LA County residents. This plan lasted from 2018 – 2023 during a time that brought forth global upheaval because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Â
Over the last year, CHE has worked with Public Health programs to provide an update on that plan and put forth an extension plan that will take the work through December 2024. This latest edition of the Action Plan represents Public Health’s commitment and progress toward achieving equity through a set of key organizational priorities centered on institutional change and eliminating inequities in health outcomes related to Infant and Maternal Mortality, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), and Environmental Justice.Â
Additionally, the Action Plan frames Language Justice as a cross-cutting factor and outlines 4 equity priorities that showcase how Public Health is advancing equity: Â
Providing access to useful and inclusive health equity data.  Â
Supporting policy and systems change for the equitable distribution of opportunities and resources.    Â
Building partnerships that truly share power and respect community perspective and autonomy.  Â
Strengthening organizational readiness and capacity to adopt a just culture and advance health equity. Â
Furthermore, CHE is working with the Office of Planning, Integration, and Engagement (PIE), within Public Health, to develop a Los Angeles County Community Health Equity Improvement Plan (CHEIP) that will build from the CHE Action Plan and previous LA County Community Health Improvement Plans.  This plan will include strategies that are intended to address inequities, developed in collaboration with community partners, and informed by data.  The CHEIP is expected to be released in the summer of 2024 and cover the term of 2025 -2029.Â
